The 24th Annual Howard W. Leonard Golf Scramble to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of Martha’s Vineyard took place on Sunday, September 16.

The Martha’s Savings Bank and Mink Meadows Golf Club sponsored the event and the Big Brothers Big Sisters program volunteers offer huge thanks. The beautiful weather contributed to the fantastic spirit of the day as 48 golfers took to the Mink Meadows course following coffee and breakfast foods provided by the Black Dog Café.

The team of Jim Geary, Bob Ogden, Phil Mercier, and Blake Axtell topped the leader board with a score of 59.50. Greg Lott, Dave Prendergast, Tom Shockey, and John Shockey took second with a score of 60.25. Jim Brennan, Dave Lawrence, John Johnson, and Peter Graves also scored a 60.25. The tie-breaker was decided by the scores from Hole #13.

Winners for closest to the pin at holes #5 and #7, respectively, were Steve Clark and John Johnson.

After enjoying a delicious lunch provided by Tea Lane Caterers with beverages donated by Coca Cola, prizes were given to all participants.

The Mink Meadows Golf Club staff contributed greatly to the event and Chet Nowack deserves extra thanks for coordinating the day.

Big Brothers Big Sisters depends on the generosity of others and once again this outstanding community pitched in for a memorable day, raising close to $10,000.
