The Island's best oyster and littleneck shuckers gathered at the Oak Bluffs harbor on Sunday for the 6th annual Shuckoff On The Harbor. The event, organized by Austin Higgins of Coop de Ville, pitted contestants representing the Coop against those from neighboring Lobsterville.
By the end of the afternoon, $280 was raised for and evenly divided between Hospice of Martha's Vineyard and the Martha's Vineyard Animal Shelter.
A spirited crowd was on hand to cheer on the competitors. Arthur James "Jimmy" Hoe won the oyster shucking final for Coop de Ville while the team of Chris Jones and Teddy Karalekas evened the score for Lobsterville in the littleneck contest. Austin Higgins and Paul Ritchie officiated the proceedings, checking the final count for both speed and cleanliness.
