A beautiful day for the cause

To the Editor:

We would like to thank the whole Island community for their continued support at our ongoing electronic waste and awareness collection held every Sunday now through Thanksgiving in a different Island town. We are writing in particular about the event held this past Sunday, September 23, in the Menemsha Texaco parking lot by the town beach. And what a beautiful day it turned out to be. And not just because of the gorgeous weather we were blessed with.

For those of you who made the time to enjoy the sunset in Menemsha that day, they found a little bit more than the sky on fire. The Realized Dream Project Vineyard Branch sponsored a free concert on the beach along with the drive and awareness day. We would like to thank all those who made the event possible. To The Chilmark Selectmen, for being so enthusiastic about helping get the word out about this growing environmental problem. To chief of police Brian Cioffi and the whole Chilmark Police Department Menemsha detail for having our back. To the Larsen family and especially Stanley for all your support. To Marshall and family, as well as the Squid Row crew at the Texaco, you guys are the best. To the Eddy family, for all of their help in making moving this E-waste economical. And finally to the musicians who performed, their fans and those who worked the show that day. You do a job that is often way overlooked. From all of us who know the burden of a thankless job. Thank You for making the event a huge success.

We will continue to do these drives every Sunday in a different Island town. This Sunday, September 30, we will be in West Tisbury at the post office parking lot by Fella’s. Next Sunday September 7, at Vineyard Medical Services in Vineyard Haven, and on September 14, we will be in the field next to Our Market in Oak Bluffs.

Again our deepest thanks and blessings. If we all move an ounce that is not our own, we can move mountains together.
