Shark tourney is a disgrace
To the Editor:
I sent the following to the Oak Bluffs selectmen:
The Monster Shark Tournament is a disgrace. It makes me ashamed to live on the Vineyard. Not only does it celebrate cruelty to animals, but it also caters to spectators' worst instincts and leads to drunken fights in and around Circuit Avenue.
I wonder what children learn from witnessing this horrific event. "It's good for business" is a weak justification for hosting it. If you need to fill Oak Bluffs's coffers, why not organize an activity that benefits everyone and isn't harmful? I urge you to stop scheduling this event.
