Joel Cristea is crowned pistol champ

Joel Cristea (left) edged out former champ Dave Roberts (right) to win the 2012 Pistol Championship Saturday at the Rod and Gun Club.

Joel Cristea of Edgartown edged out former champ Dave Roberts of Vineyard Haven to win the large caliber pistol division in the 2012 Martha's Vineyard Pistol Championship held Saturday, October 6, at the Rod and Gun Club range overlooking Sengekontacket Pond.

The winning difference in a shootout where both competitors scored 390 points out of 400 was 1/16 of an inch. The competition included different distances, positions, and time limitations.

Mr. Roberts took second place and Randy Ditson finished third. 

Mr. Roberts won first place in the small caliber division followed by Randy Ditson and Jeff Delong.

Island shotgunners will have an opportunity to display their skills prior to the opening of the deer shotgun season when the club hosts its annual deer shoot on Sunday, November 25. For more information go to mvrodandgunclub.com.
