Should not have published his letter

To the Editor:

I was distressed that The MV Times chose to publish a letter [No on Obamas, October 4] written by Robert Reed that was so full of inaccuracies. It took me five minutes to find that the source of the claim (AFP) that our ambassador to Lybia had been sodomized had disclaimed that report as false. I think that before your paper prints this sort of inflammatory letter some degree of quality control needs to be applied. The magnitude of this failure was exacerbated by the fact that it appeared after a well thought out and factual letter. Let's not grab at any loose straw for the sake of equal time. Unless it is your claim that this was representative of a typical Republican view. I expect better from your paper.
