The Martha's Vineyard Public Charter School's annual Rock Auction was this past Saturday, Oct. 13, at Flatbread Co. The crowd of more than 100 raised more than $20,000 for the school, according to Paul Karasik, event auctioneer and school board president.
The groovy dance party celebrated the 60s with hit tunes spun by DJ Jay Araujo, and there were silent and live auction items to bid on, to raise money for the school.
The 10 live auction items were a fun mix of various Island goods and services, such as the "It's My Party!" item: a cocktail party for up to 15 people featuring appetizers by Dan Sauer, DJ Bill Narkiewicz, a bar stocked courtesy of Michael Wallace, with "bartender" Paul Karasik. The "Tree House of the Rising Sun" got one bidder for a one-room, one-window, one-door treehouse by master carpenter Pat Brown.
These school supporters sure know how to have fun. "Since it was a 60s theme auction, audience members were invited on stage for a Twister game," wrote Mr. Karasik in an email. But they were only able to move when bidding rose on an auction item."
