Chris “Fibber” Magee of Vineyard Haven drove the 2010 Al’s Package Store Dodge Charger to a fifth place finish Sunday in the 30-lap Super Late Model Division race at the season-ending World Series of Speedway Racing at Thompson International Speedway in Thompson, Conn.

Magee, who was ninth in the 2011 World Series, started 11th of 21 drivers, avoided a wreck on lap 3, and steered his way into 7th place with 15 laps to go.

The Island racer’s top five finish is all the more impressive because the race team had limited time to test the car due to rain on Friday. Practice for the 30-lap finale was limited to four 10-lap warm-up sessions.

Chris wishes to thank Amy and Gary Look of Al’s Package Store for their invaluable help. The car is also sponsored by Island Water Source, owned by Nancy and John Clarke, Bay State Towing, and the Island Group Real Estate.
