The Vineyard harriers enjoyed their best results to date Saturday night at the second annual Bob McIntyre Twilight Invitational in Falmouth.

The Vineyarders competed against 1,721 runners and ran in each of the eight possible events.

The boys varsity team finished second overall in Division 2, just four points behind Sandwich, 49-53. Sixteen of the 21 Vineyarders achieved personal best times.

“Our guys ran out of their minds,” coach Joe Schroeder said, “You’ll see some times that are ridiculous. The guys were happy with second, but they know they were so close.”

Four Island runners finished the 3.1 miles in under 17 minutes: Jeremy Alley-Tarter (16:16.64, 7th of 175 runners); Mike Schroeder (16:26.86, 9th); Cooper Chapman (16:42.14,13th); and Kyle Joba-Woodruff (16:43.61, 14th). Sam Oslyn (23rd) was none too shaby at 17:04.

Julian Kelly led the Vineyarders in the boys jayvee race with a time of 17:47.01, good for 16th out of 259 runners.

The McIntyre is unique in that it has a sophomore race. Andrew Wiley had the top Vineyard time of 17:56.24, which was 34th of 240.

Three Vineyarders cracked the top 50 out of 271 in the 2.1-mile boys freshman race: Nate D’ Angelo (12:18.40, 28th); Silas Berlin (12:25.89, 36th); and Chase Sylvia (12:38.90).

The Vineyard girls also had a stellar night under the lights. Nine of the 15 runners in purple had personal bests. The fastest time of the night belonged to Julia Neville, who ran in the sophomore race and finished 8th overall in 20:24.31.

Only two girls ran in the varsity race. Willoe Maynard was 67th out of 152 (21:18.83) and Lilly Neville was 118th (23:31.44).

Hannah Moore (23:26.95, 85th of 280) was swiftest in the jayvee race, followed by Lucy Norris (23:51.54, 101st).

Maisie Jarrell carried the Vineyard mantle in the freshman girls race, placing 146th out of 195 in 17:10.15.
