Hess is More

Hess is More, the brain-child of Danish composer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Mikkel Hess, is performing on Friday, November 2, at Dreamland in Oak Bluffs. The show is from 9 pm to 1 am, and tickets are $10; $7 in advance. Visit dreamlandmv.com for more information and to order tickets.

Cooking through Cultures

The next Cooking Through Cultures class, offered by ACE M.V., is this Thursday, November 1, with a lesson in Indian cooking with Uma Datta. The remaining three classes are on November 8 (Wampanoag cooking with Kristina Hook-Leslie), and November 29 and December 6 (both Jewish cooking with Ljuba Davis). All are $35/person except the last two, which is $54 for both. All classes are from 6:30 to 8:30 pm at the Edgartown School. Participants must bring a $10 materials fee to each class, and a container for leftovers.

Tsoknyi Rinpoche to speak

Tsoknyi Rinpoche, a renowned teacher of Tibetan Buddhism, will speak at the Martha’s Vineyard Hebrew Center on Sunday, Nov. 4, at 7:30 pm. Mr. Rinpoche, who teaches throughout the world, will speak on “Open Heart, Open Mind-Awakening the Power of Essence Love,” which is also the title of his most recent book. Mr. Rinpoche is on the Island leading a month-long retreat, in which 110 people are participating.

Evoke Your Senses

FLY Yoga, Not Your Sugar Mamas, and DJ Di are partnering up for a night of chocolate, trance dance, aromatic scents, groovy tunes, and more on Friday, November 9. Neighborhood Convention

The November 6 meeting of the Neighborhood Convention will be held at the First Baptist Church, located at 43 Spring Street in Vineyard Haven.

Beginning at 10:45 am, the worship service will be conducted by the Reverend Ellen Tatreau. The program, “The History of the Shenanoah,” will be presented by Bob Douglas.
