The Martha’s Vineyard boys soccer team got off on the right foot in the first round of the MIAA Division 2 South Sectional tournament Sunday afternoon in Scituate.

Jack Roberts scored early in the first half from Ben Dwane to lift the 11th-seeded Vineyarders (8-4-5) to a 1-0 win over the sixth-seeded Sailors (12-4-2). With the win, the Purple and White advanced to the sectional quarterfinals on Tuesday at 4 pm to play at third-seeded Holliston (13-3-2). The Panthers were 3-0 winners over Duxbury on Sunday night.

The Vineyarders were able to protect their lead for the duration of the match thanks to stellar play from sophomore defender Ben Poole and goalkeeper Jackson McBride.
