Holliston knocks Vineyard boys out of state soccer tourney
Ryan Snow scored in the ninth minute and the third-seeded Holliston Panthers held on to tame a game Martha's Vineyard boys soccer team, 1-0, Tuesday night in an MIAA Division 2 South sectional quarterfinal in Holliston. The 11th-seeded Vineyarders came out in the second half and controlled possession for a good stretch but were unable to mount a serious attack.
Martha's Vineyard (8-5-5) bowed out of the state tournament after eliminating sixth-seeded Scituate, 1-0 in the first round on Sunday.
In Scituate, the Vineyarders were the side that defended an early lead. Jack Roberts put the visiting Purple and White in front early in the first half.
The Vineyarders kept the Sailors off the score sheet for the duration, thanks to the stellar play of sophomore back Ben Poole and goalkeeper Jackson McBride.
