To the Editor:

The "Historical Perspectives" column in the October 25 issue of this newspaper describes the Edgartown Lyceum, a forum for debates on Island and national issues in the mid-1800s. The article was credited to the me. In fact, it was authored by Jesse Landy, one of 12 museum interns this past summer. Jesse, an intern in the museum's library and archives section, is currently in his junior year at NYU.

We are proud of our summer internship program and the students who take advantage of this opportunity. Our interns are instrumental in allowing us to present a full summer schedule of lectures, events, and children's programs, and we provide them with experience and knowledge of the many aspects of caring for and sharing the history of the Island. Many of these interns go on to careers in the museum field, in education, and in the arts.

We appreciate this opportunity to share the work of these outstanding young people and the richness of the museum's collection.
