Vineyard FC, the Island’s entry in the New England Over The Hill Soccer League completed a perfect 10-0 regular season with a forfeit victory Saturday over Milton United. The Island Cooper side received word on Saturday that the visitors from up north would be unable to field a team for the regular season finale on Sunday morning at MVRHS.

As undefeated champions of the league’s Masters Division 6 South section, VFC will host Masters Division 6 North champions CD Faialense of Cambridge this Sunday, November 11, at Dan McCarthy Field on the high school campus in Oak Bluffs. Kickoff is set for 11 am.

MVRHS graciously honored the team’s request to play on the varsity field for the playoff semi-final match. VFC is in the planning stages of working with the MVRHS Soccer Booster Clubs to raise funds from concessions from this special event.

The team hopes to create a soccer festival atmosphere by bringing together the Vineyard soccer community. Many players from coach Damon Burke’s Vineyard boys varsity squad have scrimmaged against VFC this season. Girls varsity coach Richard Bennett and girls jayvee coach Garry Metters have played on Vineyard FC in the past, while several other VFC players have coached, refereed, and administered youth soccer. A few VFC players currently play and referee in the Vineyard Football Association’s 21-year-old Summer Soccer League.
