A horse trailer towed by David Schuster of West Tisbury tipped over on a Route 495 exit ramp in Wrentham on Tuesday, November 13, according to State Police. Neither Mr. Schuster nor Sarah Pallatroni, a passenger in the truck, were hurt, but one of the horses suffered fatal injuries.

Both horses in the trailer suffered deep cuts and bruises to their legs, according to animal control officers who responded to the accident about 11:30 am Tuesday.

A veterinarian called to the scene treated the horses,  then both were transported to the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University large animal hospital in North Grafton. Catherine Cinnamond, a spokesman for the school, said injuries to one of the horses were so severe that the animal was euthanized. The other horse is being treated for significant injuries to three legs, and doctors expect the animal will remain at the hospital for several more days.
