Built around Beethoven’s Opus 131 String Quartet in C-sharp minor, it is an homage to chamber music and the cultural world of New York. Starring Philip Seymour Hoffman, Christopher Walken, and Catherine Keener.

Argo (R)

A piece of recent history dramatized with real-time acting rather than special effects. In 1980, there was a joint CIA-Canadian secret operation to rescue six American diplomatic personnel out of revolutionary Iran. Starring Ben Affleck, who also directs; Bryan Cranston, John Goodman, Alan Arkin.

Flight (R)

An action-packed mystery in which a seasoned airline pilot attains hero status after miraculously crash landing and saving nearly everyone on board. Questions arise about the hero. Starring Nadine Velazquez, Denzel Washington in a bravura performance, and Carter Cabassa.

An animated film from Sony. Dracula builds a place where he can protect his little ghoul and other monsters from humans. Rise of the Guardians (PG)
