Ralph C. Case II, of Edgartown died unexpectedly on Thursday, November 15, 2012.

Ralph was born to the late Ralph and Hazel (Brown) Case on June 3, 1950 in Fall River. A life-long Island resident, Ralph graduated from Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School in 1968. He worked at the Vineyard Gazette for several years before spending the next 40 years with the Edgartown Water Department until retirement in September. Mr. Case was a proud 36-year veteran of the Edgartown Fire Department and an active member of the local shellfishing committee as well as the Masonic Fraternity, Order of the Eastern Star, and the Colonial Navy of Massachusetts.

He is survived by his loving wife, Kathie, of 26 years. Also, by his brother and sister-in-laws, Frank and Linda Noble of Somerset, as well as nieces Deborah Bergus and Cheryl Jehn, nephew Doug Noble and his wife, Lori, cousins Avis Sue Miller and her husband, Jerry, Nancy Trembly and her husband, Everett, Cynthia Laurant and her husband, Sonny, Kenneth and Michelle Brown, and finally, his darling niece Amanda Brown and countless great nieces and nephews.

Ralph was a lover of the outdoors, an avid hunter, angler and shellfishing aficionado. He could also be found cheering on numerous local sports teams including his beloved Patriots, Red Sox, Sharks and the MVRHS girls hockey team supporting goddaughter Kassidy Bettencourt.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made to the Edgartown Fireman’s Association, PO Box 737, Edgartown, MA 02539.

Calling hours will be held Friday, November 23, at Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, Edgartown Road in Oak Bluffs from 5 to 8 pm. The funeral service will be on Saturday, November 24, at the Federated Church on South Summer St. in Edgartown at 11 am with interment at the New Westside Cemetery. A celebration of his life will be held at the Edgartown Fire Station following the funeral services.
