Fans at the Martha’s Vineyard Boys and Girls Club were treated to two entertaining games Monday night as the RCBL hoops season moved into week three.
In the opening contest, the Lakers trailed throughout and were down 59-48 entering the final period, but they rallied to top the Bulls, 82-78, in double overtime.
The teams were tied 68-68 at the end of regulation. Neither team scored in the first overtime. In the second extra session, the Lakers (2-1) took an early advantage and got a workout at the charity stripe. Damon Mello was busiest, sinking five of eight from the line.
Laker James Rolston was five for seven from the stripe in the second half and finished as the high scorer with 26 points. His brother Pat and Damon Mello added 13 each. Heath Estrella had 16.
Adam O’ Neal led the Bulls (0-3) with 22 points and five three-pointers. Luke Bettencourt scored 14, Jared Silvia 12, and Asa Ray 11.
The second game of the night was just what the run-and-gun Suns wanted, a shootout, and they put out the Heat 130-100.
Jade Cash led the Suns’ (3-0) blazing attack with 27 points, followed by James Holenko (25), Sterling Bishop (24), Asil Cash (18), Mike Baptiste (16), and Billy Hart (11).
Lucas Brewer scored 23 points for the Heat (1-2). Next, were John Netto (22), Jason Dyer (17), Tim Scott (11), and Matt Gebo (10). The Heat were deadly from outside, draining ten three-pointers. Dyer had 4, Brewer 3, and Netto 3.
