This year, the tree lighting ceremony in Oak Bluffs will take place on Wednesday, Nov. 28, beginning at 6:30 pm at the Post Office Square.

This event is sponsored by several community organizations, including the Friends of Oak Bluffs, the Oak Bluffs PTO, the Oak Bluffs Firemen’s Civic Association, the Oak Bluffs Association, the Highway Department, the Park Department, the Brian Weiland Band, the Vineyard Brass Ensemble, Jardin Mahoney’s Garden Center, Mike Santoro of Seasons and The Lookout, and JB Blau, manager of Dreamland.

The community is invited to join in the caroling, beginning at 6:30 pm at Post Office Square. The Vineyard Brass Ensemble will perform a medley of traditional holiday carols and Board of Selectman Chairman, Kathy Burton, will officially light the town tree.

Immediately following the lighting of the tree, the public is invited to partake in some special holiday fare at the Dreamland Ballroom, above the M.V. Chowder Company on Oak Bluffs Avenue. There will be plenty of hot chocolate, home baked cookies supplied by the PTO, free antlers for all, holiday music by the Brian Weiland Band, and best of all, a visit from Santa and his helpers.

Santa’s visit will have a very special holiday meaning, since he will be there to collect gifts of food for the Island Food Pantry. The event is free, but, everyone who attends is asked to bring a food donation, which will be placed in festively decorated baskets and transported by Santa and his helpers to the Island Food Pantry in plenty of time for the holidays.

In case of rain, the caroling will take place in the Arcade next to Sharky’s Cantina on Circuit Avenue.
