Wampanoag tribe holds council elections

The Wampanoag Tribe of Gay Head (Aquinnah) held elections Sunday.

Jonathan Perry (85 votes) of North Dartmouth, Leigh Moreis (75 votes) of Aquinnah, Beverly Wright (69 votes) of Aquinnah and Steven Craddock (64 votes) of Rhode Island outdistanced Al Clark Jr. (60 votes) and Willard Marden (58 votes) to fill four seats on the council.

Wenonah Madison was elected to the cultural council with 118 votes. Jonathan Perry received 2 votes.

A total of 133 voters out of the tribe's electorate of just over 600 voters cast their votes between 10 am and 2 pm, Sunday, tribal chief Ryan Malonson said.

"There were no issues, it was very smooth," Chief Malonson said.
