The Martha’s Vineyard Prescribed Fire Partnership conducted a controlled burn Monday at The Trustees of Reservations’ Long Point Reservation in West Tisbury.

“Controlled burns are used to increase the safety of communities by reducing the amount of fuel for wildfires. They are carefully managed by fire teams, consisting of forest, fire and weather experts, who decide when and where burns can safely take place. These burns help restore the health of our natural areas, allowing plants and wildlife to rejuvenate,” the Partnership said.

Member organizations of The Martha’s Vineyard Prescribed Fire Partnership include Mass Audubon, The Nature Conservancy, Polly Hill Arboretum, Sheriff’s Meadow Foundation, and The Trustees of Reservations.
