Jeremy Alley-Tarter wins 5K for KJ

One week after racing in the Massachusetts All State high school cross-country meet, Jeremy Alley-Tarter of Edgartown ran to victory Saturday in the 8th annual 5K for KJ at Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School. The Vineyard junior topped the field of 121 runners with a time of 17:30. The event benefited the Kevin Johnson Cross-Country Scholarship Fund.

Island runners swept the top five positions. Eight finished in the top ten, five of whom are members of the MVRHS cross-country team. Michael Schroeder from West Tisbury placed second in 17:42, followed by Gregory Berks, Vineyard Haven, (17:48); Kyle Joba-Woodruff, W.T., (17:59); Jose Alves, O.B., (18:30); Anteheh Kutenplonray, Barrington, R.I., (18:52); Scott Bosworth, Dorchester, (19:02); George Sykes, Oak Bluffs (20:02); Nate D’ Angelo, W.T., (20:12); and Reaan Steenkamp, V.H., (20:22).

Rebecca Trachsel of Winchester placed 11th (20:32) and was the first woman to finish the race. Eight Vineyard runners filled out the top 25: Galen Mayhew, W.T., (20:42, 12th); Isaiah Maynard, V.H., (21:23, 15th); Hudson Maynard, V.H., (21:24, 16th); Jack O’ Malley (22:40, 19th); Patrick Parker, V.H., (22:59, 21st); Nevin Wallis, O.B., (23:10, 22nd); Christopher Sykes, O.B., (23:36, 23rd); and Cristina Wiley, W.T., (24:07, 25th).

Margaret D’ Angelo, W.T., (25:22, 31st); Brenda Wallis, O.B., (25:37, 32nd); and Jessica Roddy, Chilmark, (26:32, 36th) were 3rd through 5th among Island women.
