Books for kids

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Martha’s Vineyard and Bunch of Grapes bookstore in Vineyard Haven have teamed up to offer the community a unique gift giving opportunity for the holiday season.

Little brothers and sisters in the mentoring program are invited to visit Bunch of Grapes and create a wish list with six titles of books they would like to have.

Community members may view the wish lists and choose a book to give to a little. Bunch of Grapes has offered to discount these gifts by 20 percent.

This opportunity is available until December 31. For further information, contact Connie Alexander, advisory board member, at 508-693-0101.

Stars for Island libraries

The Vineyard Haven, West Tisbury, and Oak Bluffs libraries recently announced they have been named three of the 262 “star” libraries out of 7,570 rated in Library Journal’s annual rating of U.S. public libraries.

The rating is based on four public service indicators: circulation, visits, program attendance, and public internet use.

There are nine total star libraries in Massachusetts. Eight of the nine are members of the CLAMS network.
