The Makos Swim Club of the YMCA of Martha’s Vineyard hosted a home meet Sunday against the Sailfish, based in Duxbury.

The teams competed in front of a packed house for three hours in 59 events, including freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke, butterfly, individual medley, and relays. Through it all, the Sailfish prevailed 481-287.

“I thought we had a fantastic meet, we had a ton of best times, and we swam very well with 40 kids against a team of 60 swimmers,” coach David Espindle said.

Makos Ben Yancey, Harrison Dorr, Patrick Best, Salyn Yancey, Lia Potter, Anna Nitardy, Robert Goodale, Renee Goodale, and Madison Lopez-Mata were all standouts.

Composed of swimmers between six and 18 years old, the Makos compete in the Southeastern Massachusetts Swim League from October until March. They are also members of New England Swimming in which they participate year-round. The team is coached by Mr. Espindle and Rainy Goodale.
