Songs of Peace, Hope, and Light

Roberta Kirn and the Charter School Community Chorus perform their 11th annual holiday concert this Sunday, Dec. 16. The free concert starts at 4 pm at the Martha's Vineyard Hebrew Center in Vineyard Haven. All are invited to come and listen, and also sing. 

Church fair

The Grace Episcopal Church Christmas Fair this Saturday, Dec. 15, 10 am to 4 pm, welcomes all ages for festive fun, food, and shopping.

Unusual and attractive treasures will be found at the silent auction, White Elephant gift sale, and crafts table. A Grilled Cheese Bar with lots of choices highlights the hearty winter luncheon along with homemade chowder, tomato soup, Italian sausage sandwiches, and veggie wraps. A bake sale will offer an array of homemade holiday sweets and treats.

Children can enjoy special Christmas craft activities, or buy and wrap gifts for friends and family.

Proceeds benefit Hurricane Sandy Relief and the church youth group. For more information, call 508-693-0332.

The Friends of the Vineyard Haven Library present an exhibit of photographs by Joe Doebler for the month of December for the Art in the Stacks program. Having washed ashore here with his wife in 1996, Mr. Doebler has taken photos all over the word. See his work during regular library hours. For more information, call the library at 508-696-4211. 

Fiber Folks

The monthly meeting of the Fiber Folks, a group of hand-crafters, meets this coming Sunday, Dec. 16. Bring a project, partake in a yarn and equipment swap, and knit, spin, hook, and more from 1 to 4 pm at the Ag Hall in West Tisbury. Winter Solstice with Words

Island poets, writers, and musicians will gather at the Vineyard Haven Library on Wednesday, Dec. 19, to celebrate the upcoming Winter Solstice. Participants include Martha's Vineyard Poet Laureate Lee McCormack along with Ellie Bates, Liz Bradley and Mark Mazer, Marianne Goldberg, Jill Jupen, Clary Myers, Donald Nitchie, Barbara Peckham, Annette Sandrock, Laura Wainwright, and William Waterway.

Refreshmets will be served, and the event begins at 7 pm. For more information, call the library at 508-696-4211. 

At The Pit Stop...

Boston-based singer Christian McNeill, originally of Derry, Northern Ireland, recently moved to Martha's Vineyard and is performing at The Pit Stop on Saturday, Dec. 15.

Also part of a band, The Sea Monsters, which was a winner in the Boston Music Award's Best Ongoing Residency category for their packed Sunday nights at Precinct in Somerville, Mr. McNeill will perform solo, with an opening act with Nina Violet. Young musicians take the stage

This Thursday, Dec. 13, all-Island band students in grades five through eight will perform their Winter Band Concert. Starting at 7 pm at the M.V. Regional High School's Performing Arts center, hear more than 200 students play a variety of songs. Admission is free. For more information, call 508-696-6506.

Wrap it up

Get your gifts wrapped while supporting the Tisbury School PTO this Friday and Saturday, Dec. 14 and 15. Drop your packages off at the Capawock Theatre from 5 to 8 pm on Friday and 11 am to 1 pm on Saturday. Donations are accepted.
