When the new Tisbury School was built on a vacant lot, it was only a short distance from the old one. The children helped with the move. Each child carried a couple of books in a brown paper bag as they marched down the hill from the old school and along Main Street before heading up the hill to the new school.

Any time is the best time for reading. The Mini Book Sale at the Vineyard Haven Library is Saturday from 1 to 3 pm. While you are there, the Friends of the V.H. Library have a new batch of discount passes for library patrons to use for the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. These are good for reduced admission for two people any time through the end of November in 2013.

At the library next Tuesday at 7 pm see Daniel Craig in the recent James Bond film. Bond must win a poker game at the casino to stop a criminal who works as a banker to the terrorist organizations of the world. Rated PG-13. This is in celebration of 50 years of 007, with popcorn and apple cider.

Then on Wednesday evening at 7 pm at the library you are invited to celebrate the Winter Solstice with Words for a Winter Night. Enjoy poetry readings from some of our Island’s most popular writers. Ellie Bates, Marianne Goldberg, Jill Jupen, Clark Meyers, Donald Nitchie, Barbara Peckham, Annette Sandrock, Laura Wainwright, and William Waterway, as well as our Island Poet Laureate Lee McCormick.
