The halls are decked, the presents are wrapped — well, some presents are wrapped — the kids have one more half day of school, and then the wait is on for the fat man in the red suit to bring the goods. We’ll be ready for you, buddy!
If only the weather would act a bit more seasonal. All this rain, you’d think it was April. Well, we braved it at Gillette on Sunday night with a travel team that included Dave and me, my mom, Michael Snowden, Adam Darack, and Posie Haeger. Sadly, the Pats couldn’t pull it off, but it was a nail-biter, to say the least. But we all had a good time despite the weather and the final score.
Tom O’Hanlon has reached the half-century mark, and a room full of friends helped him make the transition Wednesday night, December 19. Here’s to many more.
We’ve had some folks in pursuit of educational goals and kicking butt at it. Congratulations to Kate Conde for completing the coursework and test-taking necessary to become a full-fledged paramedic. Also, here’s to Heather Smith who continues to pass her paralegal exams with flying colors.
You have a week left to prove your picture-taking prowess through the Martha’s Vineyard Magazine annual photo contest. Deadline for entries is Monday, Dec. 31 before midnight. Photos must be shot on or around Martha’s Vineyard, they must be the original work of the person submitting them, and the photos cannot have been digitally altered (minor color correcting is acceptable). Photos also must not have been previously published, nor entered in previous MV Magazine photo contests. The photographs submitted will be judged on an anonymous basis by a panel including professionals in photography and the arts, and the magazine staff. Winning photographs will be announced and published in the May–June 2013 magazine. Jill Zadeh is back at the Harbor View Saturday, Dec. 22. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. The accomplished singer-songwriter will perform songs from her latest album, “Merry Christmas With Love, Jill Zadeh,” which features classics such as “Silent Night” and “I’ll Be Home for Christmas.” Praised for her soulful voice and lyrical talent, Zadeh has performed back-up vocals for world-renowned artists including Christina Aguilera, Maroon 5, Diana Ross, Patty LaBelle, and Joss Stone. She most recently joined Janet Jackson for her 2011 “Up Close and Personal” world tour.
Shear Inspiration Salon and the Araujo Family are offering another opportunity to send relief efforts for families affected by Hurricane Sandy. Drop off your donations of much-needed supplies for the clean up efforts no later than December 21 at Shear Inspiration Salon, 12 Mariners Way at the Triangle from 9 am to 5 pm. The current most pressing needs are for nonperishable food, toiletries, cleaning supplies, and industrial cleaning tools. No longer needed are bleach, clothing, and blankets.
