Friday night Chilmark accident knocked out power up-Island

Homes up-Island lost power after a Chilmark man struck a utility pole on South Road, at about 10:30 pm, Friday.

State Police officer Dave Parent said Walter Wlodyka, 64, of Chilmark left the scene of the accident near Barlow Way. Police stopped Mr. Wlodyka near the Chilmark Community Center. He was arrested on charges of operating under the influence, leaving the scene of an accident, and a marked lanes violation.

He was scheduled to be arraigned in Edgartown District Court on Thursday morning, January 3.
