Fireworks splashed through the sky above Edgartown Light on New Year's Eve.

In quiet gatherings and boisterous parties, with traditional meals and grand feasts, with sips of wine and magnums of champagne and tumblers of seltzer, Islanders rang in 2013 in style.
For the second year in a row, the Harbor View Hotel in Edgartown threw a grand gala, complete with a spectacular fireworks show at the stroke of midnight.
More than 400 people dressed in their New Year's finest and danced the night away to The Sultans of Swing. They capped the evening with a toast, a kiss, and in at least one case, a wedding proposal.
The Times also visited the Portuguese-American Club in Oak Bluffs, where partiers celebrated with Sabrina and the Groovers.
