Timothy Carroll Sullivan Jr. of Rye Beach, New Hampshire, died suddenly on Wednesday, December 12, at his home. He was 73.

He was born on April 26, 1939, in Manchester, the son of the late Dr. Timothy C. and Elizabeth (McClallen) Sullivan Sr.

Tim was raised in Manchester and spent the summers with his family in Rye Beach. He graduated from Central High School and also Cheshire Academy in Connecticut, where he was a member of the golf and fencing teams. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Columbia University, a Master of Education from Antioch University, and his law degree from Western New England School of Law.

He was the former Director of Admissions at Columbia University School of GS in N ew York, the Associate Director of Financial Aid in the Office of the Vice President at Columbia, the Director of Admissions at Bard College in New York and president of Andover Junior College. Most recently, Tim worked as an educational consultant for several institutions. He retired in 2007 and moved from Boston to Rye Beach.

Tim enjoyed playing golf, skiing, hunting with his dogs, The Red Sox, and his Siamese cats.

He very much enjoyed his time on the Vineyard which included membership in the Vineyard Haven Yacht Club and The Island Ball Watching Society on Chappy.

He was also member of the Columbia Club of Boston and the former President of the Columbia University Club and Scholarship Committee of New England. He served on the Charlestown Design Committee and was a member of the Charlestown Historical Society. He was a communicant of St. Theresa Parish in Rye Beach, and he was a member of the Men’s Guild. He served in the U.S. Army. He will be remembered for his great sense of humor, giant heart, and his wonderful stories.

Family members include his beloved daughter, Virginia Elizabeth Sullivan of Boston and Vineyard Haven, his sisters, Elizabeth O’Leary and her husband, David Nelson, of Hampton and Mary-Ann Sullivan, currently living in Peru, his nieces Tara O’Leary and family of Arlington, Katie Osswald and family of Hampton, nephew Dan O’Leary and family of Hampton and several grand nieces and nephews. He also leaves his former wife, Mary Sullivan of Vineyard Haven.
