Tisbury runners Gregory Berks and Hildee Lewis won the New Year's Day 5K race in Oak Bluffs on Tuesday.

A total of 104 hardy souls braved the numbing chill and wind to benefit the Moore family of Vineyard Haven. The race raised more than $2,000 for the family.

The approximately 5K course started in front of the Martha's Vineyard Chowder Company restaurant and continued up Circuit Ave. to County Road, then to Vineyard Avenue, Dukes County Avenue, and back to the starting point.

Gregory Berks was the overall winner with a time of approximately 18 minutes, according to one unofficial time-keeper. Todd Cleland of Oak Bluffs was the runner-up. Hildee Lewis was the first woman to the line. She finished fourth overall.

Official times were unavailable due to a malfunction in the timing system.
