The Vineyard girls varsity basketball team returned to the home floor at the Sancy for the first time in two weeks on Saturday, and they ran away with a dominating, gritty 73-47 non-league win over the physical Norton Lancers.

The hosts jumped out to 26-9 lead after the first quarter and led 44-26 at the half.

Katie Stewart led the Vineyard offense with 20 points. Maggie Riseborough and Kat deBettencourt each scored 10.

The Vineyarders (9-1, 2-1 EAC) have rebounded from their first loss of the season, sustained last Tuesday at Bishop Feehan, with two wins in two days.

Friday, the girls beat host Somerset Berkley, 61-46, to pick up a crucial Eastern Athletic Conference win.

Maggie Riseborough was the high scorer with 16 points. Kat deBettencourt had one of her best games of the season, making seven of nine shots for 14 points. Jenny Lindland scored 13 points and Katie Stewart added 10 more.

The Purple play at Dartmouth on Tuesday and return home Friday at 4:30 pm for an Eastern Athletic Conference game against Coyle Cassidy.
