State tourney berth on hold for Martha's Vineyard girls hoopsters

The Martha's Vineyard Regional High School girls basketball team will have to wait until Friday to have another chance to clinch an MIAA state tournament berth.

Coach Lisa Stewart's team came into Tuesday's non-league game at Dartmouth with a 9-1 record, one win shy of the 10 needed for state tournament play.

The Vineyarders, who were clicking on all cylinders in victories over Norton Saturday and Somerset Berkley on Friday, came out flat against Dartmouth and lost, 61-50. M.V. pulled ahead early in the fourth quarter but quickly faded.

The Vineyarders will try to rebound at home on Friday in an Eastern Athletic Conference game against Coyle Cassidy, but the task will be tough. The Warriors are perennially among the basketball elite and always one of the best teams on the Vineyard schedule.
