Running for a cause

Each year, Greg Rollins picks a cause to support by running the MV-20-miler road race in February. He does this by asking people to sponsor him. “Any denomination, none too small,” Greg said.

In the past he has raised money for the Boys and Girls Club. This year, he is running to raise money to help families pay to have their kids go on the Edgartown School seventh grade ski trip in February. Most of the Islands’ 7th graders go on this trip.

Greg said that even with discounts from Gunstock Mountain and the hotel, it still costs each kid between $300 and $400 dollars. “This is a tough time of year for many families to come up with that kind of money,” he said. “Any money I can raise this year will be turned over to Principal John Stevens who will than divide it however he sees fit amongst the people who come to him for assistance. This is a completely confidential process and even the kids who receive assistance will not realize this has happened behind the scenes.”

Greg will be in the Edgartown Stop and Shop lobby from 11am to 3 pm Sunday, January 27, to collect money toward this fund. For more information e-mail grerollins@aol.com.
