Poets Corner: West Tisbury morning
West Tisbury Morning
Initial sign a streak of light,
bright variation in a slate gray sky,
a tear in the night's curtain.
Then a scarlet line,
first thin, now broader,
becoming a palette with a study in reds...
yellow...orange...pink...
Enough light now to give definition
to the features of the day -
the sky with a horizon billowing with clouds,
the earth, though gray with the bare trees of winter,
green with pines and golden with grasses.
