Well, that was quite a Super Bowl; a near shutout by the Ravens in the first half, a blackout, a determined rally by the 49ers in the second half, and, of course, Beyoncé. I was rooting for the 49ers; they seemed like they had such good momentum with their new quarterback, but it just wasn’t enough, although it got close toward the end.

Now that football season is over we can focus our attention on…I’m not sure what. Oh, there are the Oscars which will be at the end of the month and February break which is the last week of February this year, and then the Martha’s Vineyard Film Festival March 15-17 and then it will almost be spring. Okay I think I can make it.

Today is the first night of the Cinema Circus film festival at the Aquinnah Library. Tonight at 5 pm the library will screen a film from last season’s Cinema Circus produced by the MV Film Festival. There will be pizza and veggies available for the kids. The series will continue on February 21 and March 7. If parents want to bring in their scrapbooks and photo albums to work on during the kids’ film, Barbara will have supplies on hand. This event is being co-hosted by the Aquinnah Community Preservation Committee (ACPC).

Come to the library this Saturday, Feb. 9, and make valentines for friends and family with Barbara. And on Valentine’s Day itself there will be a chocolate tasting from 4 to 5 pm and then a romantic movie from 5 to 7 pm.

On Tuesday, Feb. 12, the library will host a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) night from 5 to 7 pm, helping local residents with kids heading to college or with kids already in college to fill out their Federal Student Aid forms. There will also be a list of local scholarship opportunities available for review at the library.

It sounds like the visit with Curious George was a big hit! George came to the library on a fire truck and visited with the many children there. There were also Curious George stories, and songs.

This Saturday is the benefit for the Chilmark Public School. It is at the Chilmark Community Center from 7 to 9 pm, tickets are $15. each. Johnny Hoy and the Bluefish will play; there will be a dessert bar, silent auction, and a raffle. This event is always a lot of fun so come on by — and, seriously, what else is going on up Island?

Happy belated birthday to David Vanderhoop who danced away the night of his birthday with many friends last Thursday.
