A weekend storm followed by rain battered the Island's electricity network.

A transformer fire on a main electrical distribution line Monday afternoon knocked out power around the Island. The outage lasted approximately two hours. Power was restored to Vineyard Haven just after 5 pm.

The fire occurred on a pole located across from Crane Appliance, on State Road in Vineyard Haven, at approximately 3:15 pm, Monday.
