L. Robert Fullem


L. Robert Fullem died peacefully at his home on Martha’s Vineyard on Thursday, Feb. 7, at the age of 83.

He is survived by his wife, Elsbeth, with whom he had just celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary, his daughter, Leslie Fullem Hunter, and three sons, John Christopher Fullem, Robert Fullem, and Terrence Fullem, as well as 10 grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Joan and Lois, and his brother, Jack.

Prior to retiring on Martha’s Vineyard, Bob was a lifelong resident of Upper Montclair, N.J., and attended Seton Hall Preparatory High School. He graduated from Colgate University in 1951 and then received his Law degree from Harvard Law School.

After law school, Bob served for three years with the Judge Advocate General’s Corps in the U.S. Army. Upon leaving the service, Bob then started his distinguished legal career with Dewey Ballantine in New York, becoming a Managing Partner before retiring in 1997 after 40 years with the firm.

In addition to his family and his career, Bob’s passion was the Farm Neck Golf Club, which he co-founded in 1978 and until recently, served as either President, Chairman, or Board Member.

A small ceremony for family and friends will be held at Chapman, Cole & Gleason funeral home in Oak Bluffs on Saturday, Feb. 16, at 2 pm. A mass will also be celebrated on Martha’s Vineyard later this Spring.
