The 2012 festival kicked off with a New Orleans style parade through Oak Bluffs.

Martha's Vineyard Jazzfest will not return to the Island this summer, according to festival producers. Describing the hiatus as "not a bump in the road, but a rest area," festival organizers said they will focus on producing the event in the summer of 2014.

"Although our efforts over the last two years have received phenomenal support from Islanders as well as the Island's seasonal visitors," organizers wrote in a message on the Jazzfest Facebook page, "our efforts have fallen short of raising the necessary resources to continue to produce the festival in 2013. We will instead focus on our 2014 production, to continue what we think will still be one of the finest jazz festivals in the world."

Last year's Jazzfest featured 11 groups and multiple Island venues. Many of the performances were sold out in advance. There were also book signings, panel discussions, and educational events.
