Business Brief: Dan Scully named Winnetu GM

Dan Scully is the new general manager of Winnetu Oceanside Resort, Mark and Gwenn Snider, owners of Winnetu and the Nantucket Hotel on Nantucket Island, announced this week. The Winnetu is preparing to open on April 18.

“Gwenn and I are pleased to announce that we have hired Dan Scully to be our new GM. After reviewing numerous applicants for this position, Dan was the candidate that most impressed the entire management team. In the end, all of the managers and I felt that Dan’s leadership skills and long-time love for Martha’s Vineyard trumped all,” Mr. Snider explained in a press statement.

Mr. Scully is a Massachusetts native who was born in Boston, grew up at Nantasket Beach in Hull, and most recently was a resident of Newton. He is a Bates College alumnus. He has vacationed on Martha’s Vineyard nearly every summer since the late 1980s. “The Vineyard has always been a magical place for me, so I feel quite privileged and excited just to be living and working there…and then to be working at such a great property like the Winnetu. Nothing else on the Island so warmly embodies the best of what the Vineyard has to offer,” Mr. Scully, former president of Boston (magazine), said.

Under Mr. Scully’s leadership, Boston launched such hospitality-related magazines as New England Travel, Boston Weddings, and Concierge. He was also part of the development teams that launched the Boston Harbor Hotel Wine Festival, the Charles Hotel Jazz Festival, and the Nantucket Wine Festival, according to the press statement.

He is a member of the hospitality group, Skål International, and is also well known to New England’s food, travel, and lodging communities through his work experience, as well as from his involvement with organizations such as Community Servings, the Spinazzola Foundation, the Greater Boston Convention and Visitors Bureau, and the Massachusetts Lodging Association.

The Sniders added that Mr. Scully joins Winnetu in time for a unique promotion. Together with its sister resort, The Nantucket Hotel & Resort, the Winnetu is offering a special “Two Island Vacation Adventure Package,” which allows guests to travel to both islands on the same trip, stay at both resorts, and enjoy resort hospitality in each location. All of the transportation, transfer, and accommodation logistics will be taken care of for the guests.
