Noteworthy events coming up on Martha's Vineyard
Thanks to you
This Saturday, mvyradio is thanking and celebrating the people who donated money to allow the station to continue on the Internet.
"None of us was sure at the beginning of our campaign whether or not we would be successful in raising $600K necessary to keep mvyradio alive," according to a press release. "But the pledges kept coming in, many with incredible, personal tales of the station's importance to the community... We couldn't have done it without you."
The party is from 7 to 10 pm at the Ag Hall in West Tisbury. Bring desserts or drinks, and enjoy music by Mike Benjamin, Jemima James, Don Groover, Nancy Jephcote, Paul Thurlow, Tristan Israel, Wes Nagy, Dan Waters, Christian McNeill, and Erich Luening. Visit friendsofmvyradio.org for more information.
Say it with flowers
Daffodil Days, the annual fundraiser for the American Cancer Society, is this coming Tuesday and Wednesday, March 19 and 20. Buy a bunch of daffodils for $10 on Tuesday at the Edgartown Stop & Shop between 1 and 5 pm, and on Wednesday at the M.V. Hospital and Vineyard Haven Cronig's from 10 am to 2 pm. All proceeds go to fund cancer cure research and programs that help individuals battling the disease. For more information, call 508-627-5468 or call 508-693-0969.
Fans and followers as curators
M.V. Museum Facebook fans and Twitter followers are the latest guest curators to work on an exhibit for the museum's Spotlight Gallery. Over the past few weeks, dozens of people have voted on their favorite objects in the museum's collection and the winners are on exhibit at the gallery. A Ray Ellis watercolor received the most "likes." To see what other collection items received the most votes, attend the reception this Friday, March 15, from 5 to 7 pm at the museum. Admission is $7; free for members. Call 508-627-4441, ext. 123 or visit mvmuseum.org for more information.
