I spy some green peeking out at the end of my driveway with the promise of daffodils not far behind. Crocuses are popping up here and there, and despite that persistent chill that seems to return for a couple of days each week, the pinkletinks have begun tuning up for their magnum opus.

Sprouting up like spring flowers, we also have some newly minted little people among us. Joel and Elaine Graves and their son Connor welcomed Elias Drew Graves on March 14. With the initials EDG, this kid has town pride written all over him.

Stephanie Teller is the happiest new “NoNo” around with the arrival of granddaughter Eloise Estey Moses on March 9. Eloise’s parents, Sara and Doug Moses, are having a great time getting to know their new addition.

I’ve had word from Linda Hathaway that she will be participating in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer in Boston on May 18th and 19th, and she could use our help raising money for this very worthy cause. Linda needs to raise at least $1,800 and what better place to start than right here in Edgartown. To make a donation online go to avonwalk.org, choose Donate Now, type in Linda Hathaway, and then follow the instructions. For anyone who would rather not donate online, contact Linda at 508-627-8804 for tax-deductible donation coupons. Good luck, Linda.

Have you been dying to see the new mural in the Old Whaling Church? Well, the time is finally here. The mural will make its debut at United Methodist Church’s Easter service, Sunday, March 31, at 10 am. UMC will host a bunch of other Holy Week services and activities, including an Easter egg hunt for the kiddies Easter Sunday at the Dr. Daniel Fisher House, beginning at 9:30 am. For a full schedule, call 508-693-4424.

Attention seniors, Liz Villard, will lead a special session of her “Ghosts, Gossip, and Downright Scandal” walking tour Monday, March 18, at 10 am. Enjoy a light-hearted look at Island and town history through a visit to the homes and churches of those who lived it. In the course of the tour, walkers will hear about the family problems of the richest man in the whaling era, discover that Puritans did not really believe in “freedom of religion,” and meet a lascivious ghost. It may also provide answers to questions like what is the building that looks like a church on School Street? How does Federal style architecture differ from Greek revival? Why are there flying skulls on 17th century gravestones? Call the Anchors at 508-627-4368 for further info and to secure your place.

The MV Dems will hold a platform hearing on Saturday March 23rd, to present their recommendations for changes and/or additions to the State Democratic Platform. The meeting will be held at the Oak Bluffs Senior Center on Oak Bluffs Ave. from 9:30 to 12 noon. Recommendations must be signed, in writing, and with your voting address. The platform is the document written to guide our senators and congressman, as well as other state elected office holders, as a statement of shared beliefs and positions. Headed by Setti Warren, the Mayor of Newton and former candidate for U.S. Senate, the Platform Committee urges all Democrats to submit statements of positions they would like to see reflected in the platform across a variety of topics. For further info, contact Paddy Moore at 508-693-1627.

Clean out those basements! M.V. An extra-large super-sized double happy birthday with cheese goes out to my husband and favorite dude, Dave Weagle, who celebrates March 25. Go ahead and have fries with that, buddy.
