Leonard G. Fogg III of Edgartown died on March 22 in Massachusetts General Hospital with his family by his side. The cause was a stroke. He was 69.

He was a longtime dog lover and his close companions, a Bouvier des Flandres named Mo Bear and a three-legged Bichon Frise named Mookie (also known as Tripod) returned that love.

One cold winter night in February 2007 as he struggled in the freezing waters of Edgartown Harbor Mo Bear lived up to his breed’s noble reputation as a guardian and protector and saved his life by barking until rescuers arrived.

Lenny was born July 16, 1943, in Bridgeport, Conn. A former Air Force mechanic and Vietnam veteran, prior to moving to Martha’s Vineyard he owned a restaurant in Shelton, Conn., called Lenny’s Dog House that was famous for its assortment of hot dogs.

Lenny had an attachment to the Island for more than 43 years. He lived his last 25 years as a full-time resident. He was an entrepreneur who owned several businesses, including Island Estates, Island Skiff, and The Red Rooster, just to name a few.

He leaves his daughter Diana Johnson and son in-law Ronald Johnson; sons Douglas and Benjamin Fogg and daughter-in-law Yvette Fogg; grandchildren Danielle, Jesse, and Dakota Fogg; nephews Charlie Fowler and Dan Fogg and niece Amanda Fogg.

His wife of 33 years, Karen Fogg, died on January 18, 2005.

Lenny was a member of the Martha’s Vineyard Congregation of Jehovah’s. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 pm, Saturday, March 30, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 48 State Road, West Tisbury.
