A rain shower halted the boys tennis season-opening match between defending Division 3 state champion Martha’s Vineyard and Dover-Sherborn late Thursday afternoon in Dover.

When play stopped, the Vineyarders were leading two matches to none in the best of five contest. Natty Schneider won at first singles 7-5, 7-6 (8). Patrick McCarthy and Jackson McBride rolled to a win in first doubles 6-3, 6-0.

Three matches were suspended, with the Vineyarders ahead in all three. Kent Leonard leads at second singles 5-7, 6-1, 3-1, while Justice Yennie leads at third singles 7-6 (8), 2-2. Justin Smith and Ryan Sawyer took the first set in the second doubles match, 6-1.

The matches are scheduled to be completed on May 23 when Dover-Sherborn plays at Martha’s Vineyard in the return contest.
