Martha’s Vineyard hosted Abington Saturday morning in the opening high school track meet of the season. The boys edged the Green Wave, 72-64. The girls lost, 94-44.

The Vineyard boys won four of six field events and led by two points with 10 running events left. Abington placed first in six races, but the Vineyarders scored enough seconds and thirds to win the day.

Andrew Freitas won the shot put and discus, Joe Turney took the javelin and Tony Breth won the triple jump. Mike Schroeder won both the one- and two-mile races. Jeremy Alley-Tarter won the 800 meters and anchored the Vineyard win in the 4 by 400 relay. Galen Mayhew won the high hurdles.

In the girls events, Maggie Riseborough swept the shot put and discus events. Mariah Campbell took first in the high hurdles and the long jump. Sabrina Reppert won the 400 meters.

The Vineyarders are home again on Wednesday at 3 pm to take on Somerset Berkley in the Eastern Athletic Conference opener.
