Construction crews were at work last Wednesday building the new roundabout at the "blinker" intersection.

The new roundabout is finally in the fast lane. Construction crews began work in earnest this week at the four way “blinker,” where Barnes Road and Edgartown-Vineyard Haven Road intersect.

On Wednesday, a police detail directed motorists through the intersection as workers dug up pavement and relocated utility lines.

Contractor Lawrence Lynch Corporation has agreed to keep inconvenience to a minimum. The construction contract says they cannot detour traffic, and must keep delays to less than five minutes.

If all goes according to schedule, the roundabout will be in place and ready for traffic by April 15. Contractors will continue work until Memorial Day, then stop for the summer. They will return after Labor Day to finish sidewalks, bike paths, and landscaping.
