Island gymnasts perform well at 23rd Sandcastle meet

The Island Gymnastics Training School (IGTS) in West Tisbury hosted the 23rd annual Sandcastle Meet on Sunday. Thirty-two gymnasts aged five to 14 years old competed in the event.

The Vineyard gymnasts competed in seven age groups and four skill levels against youngsters from the New England Sports Academy (NESA) in Westwood and In Flight Gymnastics of North Haven, Conn. At the end of the day, NESA won with a score of 101.75, followed closely by In Flight with 101.3, and Island Gymnastics at 100.9.

The highest individual scores for the IGTS girls included: Bronze Mini Division: Arianna Edelman, vault 7.8 (2nd overall); Sarah Goodale, beam 8.0 (3rd); Molly Crawford, beam 7.9 (4th). Bronze Junior Division: Mya Lee O’Neill, vault and bars 8.7 (2nd); Hannah Tate Arena, beam 9.3 (3rd); Samantha Aldrich Moodie, bars 8.5 (4th); Kayleigh Bollin, vault 8.4 (5th). Silver Senior Division: Taybor Estrella, vault 9.0 (3rd); Kasey Varkonda, vault 8.8 (4th). Silver Junior Division: Isabelle Murphy, vault 8.95 (2nd). Senior Gold Division: MacKenzie Condon, vault 9.4 (1st); Rose Herman, vault 9.2 (6th).
