What can we say about the weather on this Monday except thank you for the blue skies and warmer sunshine and gentle breezes. Even the flowers seem to be greeting this weather as they are poking up through the ground and bursting into colors of yellow, blues, and purples.

On Friday, April 12, the Oak Bluffs School will celebrate Poetry Month with Poem In Your Pocket Day. Students in grades K through 4 have begun selecting poems for their pockets to share with each other, teachers, and parents on that day. Students in grades 5 through 8 and parents are welcome to visit the library any time next week to choose a poem for their pocket, too.

School will be closed from April 15 through April 19 for the annual April Vacation.

The Bunch of Grapes Bookstore will once again host an Island-wide book fair to benefit Island school libraries this spring. Twenty percent of all sales (excepting periodicals and gift cards) during the weekend of April 25 will go to the school library of the customer’s choice. An opening night party will be held Friday, April 25, at the bookstore from 6 to 8 pm. Condolences to the Rose Family on the passing of their mother, 102-year-old Alice Rose. I will always remember her as my neighbor for many years on Wing Road where she was often seen working on her beautiful flower gardens in her front yard. And oh my goodness her wonderful onion sandwiches, which many a generation has enjoyed. We also send condolences to Alice’s son Ronnie Rose whose wife Emily Rose passed on the same day as his mother. We are so very sorry.

Sympathies to the Family of Andy Farrissey Sr., who passed on Saturday last. A resident of Fall River for most of his life, he and his late wife came to the Island a few years ago, where they lived with his son and daughter-in-law, Andy and Kathy Farrissey. I found him to be a most friendly person who loved his family and enjoyed attending the many activities of his grandchildren. So sorry for your loss.

The Oak Bluffs Library will present Taking it Personally, a comedy show on Friday, April 12, at 3 pm. Kate Procyshyn’s set includes such topics as burning her eyes closed and church camp, among other things she takes personally.

Oak Bluffs students Hunter Ponte and William Hermman and the rest if the M.V. Peewee hockey team trekked to Orleans and fought for the Champions title against the undefeated Nantucket Peewee team. A great job by the coaches and PeeWee’s.
