Youth soccer

The spring travel soccer season is underway, and seven Vineyard teams took to the pitch over the weekend.

In South Coast Soccer League play, the men’s MV United (MVU) Under-18 team beat visiting Fall River, 1-0, on Sunday at Veterans Park in Vineyard Haven. The U-15 boys downed visiting Dighton-Rehoboth on Saturday, 5-1. On March 30, MVU drew 1-1 with hosts Oceana at Nauset High School in North Eastham. The U-11 boys Purple team won 3-1 at Fall River on Saturday. Adam Knight, Moushe Oliveira and Robe Della Torre scored for the Vineyard. Sunday, the U-11 boys Black team bested host Barnstable, 5-3. Ramon Dos Santos and Josh Sampiao scored two goals apiece and Nico Depaula notched the insurance score. Oliver Lively had two assists.

In girls SCSL play on Sunday, Dighton-Rehoboth doubled up the M.V. United U-15s, 4-2. Swansea defeated the Vineyard U-10s. On March 30, the MVU U-13s lost at home to Westport, 1-0.

The MV United Massachusetts Premier League (MAPLE) U-14 boys team opened the season Sunday with a 3-1 defeat to host FC United of Worcester.

Youth lacrosse

The Martha’s Vineyard girls Under-15 youth lacrosse team opened the season at home Sunday with a hard fought 7-6 win over Bourne.

Kate Sudarsky scored the first Vineyard goal. Erin Hill and Lacey Dinning each had two goals, Julia Regan netted one, and Ava Petricone scored her first career goal. Hailey Meader came up from the U-13 team to play goal and made a dozen saves.

The U-13s played Bourne to a 3-3 tie. Addy Hayman tallied twice and Meghan Sonia scored her first goal. Hailey Meader made six saves in another strong showing.

Potter to the Max at Brown Billone

Max Potter of Oak Bluffs won the boys 12 & under tennis tournament last weekend at the Brown Billone club in North Easton.

Max came into the match ranked 159th in New England but should move up following the tourney win.

Eric Reubens and Peter Burke both won two rounds in their divisions.

In girls play, Kat Roberts won the 14 & under flight at the same club with three easy victories. Kat is currently ranked 95th in New England and should move up considerably.
