Ted Box announced this week that work on The Seeker, a hand-built wooden scow, is on schedule and a launch is planned for September 2013.
An Internet fundraising campaign via the popular crowd-sourcing site www.indiegogo.com is currently underway, according to a press release.
Mr. Box has involved students from the beginning of the construction process. “As The Seeker ventures onto the high seas, programs for at-risk kids will provide a floating classroom and seaworthy experience,” according to the press release.
As part of the fundraising and community outreach effort, the public is welcome to drop by the construction site and visit between the hours of 3:30 and 5:30 pm beginning Thursday, May 2.
The Seeker’s open boatshed is located on Beach Road in Vineyard Haven, across from the Citgo station.
